My Story

I'm Leah

I'm a 6th generation Texan, Cornell alum, TFA Houston '07, and Coloradan by choice. I'm intense, fierce, and expressive. I'm married to my high school sweetheart, Eric. While I have many problems as a Boss Girl, he is almost never one. I love cooking, I hate cleaning up, hiking is my favorite, and education is my passion (and - luckily! - my job).

I'm a Mama

I have 2 daughters - Parker (age 5) and Davis (age 2). They've both let us know that "girl" is their gender identity for now, so we're rolling with it. Both required fertility treatments, are SO different, have robbed me of YEARS of sleep, and brought me immeasurable joy. I LOVE being a mama bear more than I ever imagined I would.  I had two unmedicated births and breastfed for over a year, and while I loved and am grateful for both of those experiences (and happy to talk about them!), they humbled and grounded me in the importance of doing what's right for you, your kids, and your family. I wish so sincerely I could travel back in time and tell myself to give Davis some damn formula. Facts: let me tell y'all it MATTERS ZERO NOW because they eat only mac and cheese and listen never. We're trying really hard to raise them not to be assholes or serial killers. At the same time, we're navigating the balance of celebrating their Indonesian heritage and owning/leveraging/spending their white privilege. It's beautiful, complicated, and an absolute BLAST.

I'm an Educator

I'm passionate about the fight for educational equity. I've spent my entire career in education as a teacher, Dean of Students, Instructional Leader, Principal, Principal Manager, Vice President of Academics, Chief Academic Officer, and leadership coach across 2 Broad-winning charter school networks and a diverse set of education environments. The art and science of teaching, leading, and learning in schools is my life's work, y'all.  I want to ensure ALL children have access to the cognitive, adapative, and socio-emotional skills that will equip them to not only sit at "the table" but to flip it the f over.

I'm a Boss Girl

I was 21 the first time I had a direct report (YIKES!), and I've learned a lot along the way.  I believe great leadership is core to building and supporting organizations that create a more just world.  I'm Dare to Lead / Daring Classrooms and Relay Leverage Leadership certified, and coaching is my super power.  I have a demanding day job that I LOVE, so I only do a very limited amount of consulting and professional development.  I believe you can be a kick-ass leader and live a fulfilling life (in whatever way you define it).
